Steel Sheet

The United Steel company was founded in nineteen one by the now famous people such as Andrew Carnegie, Charles Schwab and J.P. Morgan. But the true founder or architect was Elbert H. Gary. He also became United States Steel first chairman. And the turn of the century they bought out Carnegies steel company and combined them and named it the Federal Steel Company.

 Then they became the United States Steel, making sixty seven percent of all steel produced in the United Sates. Throughout the years to follow U.S. steel has changed with the economic conditions and the new market opportunities. They did this through a lot of diversification and periodic reconstruction.   They are still the top manufacture of steel sheets in America. United States Steel is proud of it’s past and is still dedicated to making high quality products.

Steel sheet was made by cementation, heating of bars of iron with charcoal in an enclosed furnace. The surface of the iron was of high carbon content. With the method crucible, it was developed to remove the slag from the cementation steel. It also melts iron and other metals together in a fire clay and graphite crucibles. Damascus blades were made this way.

Steel sheet is actually made out of iron. To make the steel, the iron ore is mined from the ground. Then is then melted in hot furnaces where all of the impurities are moved and then carbon will be added. Steel sheet can be used to build house frames as well as building frames. It can be a practical substitute for wood frames. As high quality wood is become so expensive and scarce, steel sheets are becoming the building material of choice. The use of steel sheets is inexpensive, low energy and is easy to build with.

If there is a need to protect a building or a structure from high waves steel sheet pilings are used and can be pounded into the waters and then rise up from the water. It can also be used as a containment barrier to stop erosion, such as the land shifting or rain coming down and loosening the soil and it washes away. This steel sheet piling is used in many home areas and industrial areas.

There is a process called either hot or cold rolling of the steel sheet. It is a process in which the metal stock is pressed and rolled through a pair of rollers. If the steel sheet temperature is above the re-crystallization, it is called ‘hot rolling.’ If the temperatures are below the re-crystallization, it is then called ‘cold rolling.’ There are quite a number of rolling processes, such as flat rolling, ring rolling, etc.

There are many different surfaces of a steel sheet. The regular matte is used for painting or lacquering surfaces. A light matte is used for improvement of the painted or lacquered surfaces. A rough matte steel sheet can be used to improve the reflectivity after the painting. This can also be used on items that require porcelain enameling.

The ground roll bright on a steel sheet is mainly used to get that high luster or electroplated applications. The commercial bright finish is used on steel sheet is used for items that will be electroplated. It has a very reflective bright, smooth finish. The brushed method is for items that need a brushed look.
